A Thirst

On a hot day our bodies crave a tall glass of iced water that quenches our thirst and after drinking that water we feel so much better, physically.

Have you ever thought how someone quenches the thirst of the soul? No matter who you are, we all have a thirsty soul. A deep thirst. To satisfy that thirst do you go on shopping sprees? Drink too much? Over exercise? Over eat? Yet after binging on whatever it is, you still have a feeling of emptiness, a dissatisfaction that you can't put your finger on. Things we strive for in this world for satisfaction leave us thirsty, wanting more. John 7: 37-38 reminds us, "On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, "Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink, who ever believes in me, as scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from with in them."

As humans in this dark world, everyday we should choose to turn to Christ as the living source of water for our souls. When we drink from Christ, we truly begin to live and feel alive.  Our souls are renewed with great love and when our souls are renewed and satisfied we lead others to the source. We cross social boundaries and expectations and love just as Christ did.

During our dinners we feed the bodies that enter our home but we also strive to feed and quench the thirst of the souls that sit at our table, through Christ's love and words. God brings people into our lives, maybe it's because they are thirsty; better yet maybe it's a gentle reminder to not drink from the world. Slow down and see with God's eyes and take a long slow drink of his life giving water; the satisfaction is like no other.
