A Sobremesa Moment

The other night we went out to eat and had a Sobremesa Moment.

You ask, "What do you mean?"

Sobremesa is an untranslatable Spanish word but can be broken down to this: Time spent in conversation, digesting, relaxing, enjoying; not rushing. It's that time spent after a meal hanging out with friends or family chatting, enjoying each other's company; it's life over the table.

I reflect on that evening and I smile. I think to myself how that Sobremesa Moment brought together strangers and new friendships. It brought together people from different regions of the world: Mexico, Russia, California, Iowa, and Texas.

Sobremesa allows differences to be set aside and for guards to be let down. For a couple hours we laughed, we talked, and we laughed some more. That time, no matter our background, is cherished by all. It brought us together.

The stuff in the world is meaningless, but the moment, that time shared over the table, is priceless; it's a memory of love and laughter. That, my friends, is a beautiful way to live life.
